Jobs and Skills Summit

Jul 20, 2022

The Australian Government will run a Jobs and Skills Summit on 1-2 September, and a program and issues paper will be published in advance of this invitation-only event.

Amongst other things, the summit will advise on the development of a permanent model for Jobs and Skills Australia, a statutory body to provide independent advice on current, emerging, and future workforce, skills and training needs.

Jobs and Skills Australia will replace the National Skills Commission, with an expanded scope that will include partnerships with state and territory governments, unions, industry and education providers.

Universities Australia welcomed the creation of Jobs and Skills Australia and reiterated a recent statement by the National Skills Commissioner, that of the million new jobs that will be created in Australia in the next five years, 53% will require a university degree.
